ABOUT ME

Hi, I am a counselling psychologist, and I think the best way to introduce myself is to tell you a little about how I am in a therapy session. I see therapy as a relationship first.

For me, it is a space where you can bring your experiences as they are, including the parts that may be difficult to talk about, and have the freedom to explore them without having to make them easier, simpler or more acceptable for someone else. I do not see my role as giving you solutions or telling you where you should be going. I am more interested in exploring experiences with you and understanding them together. I want there to be room for you to reflect on what you experience, understand it in your own way and explore different aspects of yourself at a pace that feels right for you.

I am currently exploring both humanistic and psychodynamic ways of understanding therapy, and there are aspects of both that strongly resonate with how I want to work. I value the importance of being genuine, empathetic and present in a therapeutic relationship, while also being interested in looking beyond what is immediately visible and understanding a person in greater depth. With each experience, I am still learning and evolving as a therapist.

Over the past year, I have worked with clients in individual therapy under supervision. I have also gained experience under supervision in chat-based crisis counselling and individual counselling in a juvenile setting. These experiences have allowed me to work with people across settings with varied experiences, and have shaped how I understand the importance of meeting each person as they are. I am a reflective and curious person, and I think that naturally finds its way into how I work. I also do not like reducing people to labels. For me, it is more important to understand what a person is experiencing and how they make sense of it, while allowing their experiences to be understood in their own context.

Something I hope for in therapy is that you eventually become more curious about yourself. I would not want you to become dependent on me for answers. Ideally, the relationship we build can become something you carry with you, where you can begin to understand yourself with the same curiosity and understanding that we practise together. Therapy may not always leave you feeling comforted, and I do not think it has to. But I hope it gives you a place where you can be honest, sit with what you are experiencing, and gradually develop a relationship with yourself that feels more understanding and trusting.

A little bit more about my work:

Over the past year, I have gained 60+ hours of experience in individual therapy with clients aged 18–30 years under supervision. I have also completed 150 hours of chat-based crisis counselling and 20+ hours of individual counselling in a juvenile setting, both under supervision. Additionally, I have had observership experience in psychiatric settings. I am currently pursuing an Advanced Diploma in Trauma-Informed Psychosocial Care at Hansraj College, which has given me the opportunity to explore trauma and the ways it can be understood within a person’s social context.

My research experience comes primarily from my master’s dissertation, where I worked with university students and explored resilience, perceived parenting and social-cognitive processes such as negative self-talk, self-compassion and emotional acceptance. My broader research interests lie in understanding emotional and social-cognitive experiences, including empathy, shame, guilt, trust, hope, gratitude, happiness, self-compassion, resilience, etc. as well as how relational experiences such as parenting may influence these experiences. I am particularly interested in research with adolescents, young adults and adults. I am also interested in research exploring the therapeutic process itself, including how therapy is experienced and understood from both client and therapist perspectives. These interests are still evolving as I continue to explore the areas I would like to research further.
