Welcome to Nimitt, I am Karishma :)

Hello!

My practice is named "Nimitt" which translates to "catalyst" in (my mother-tongue) Gujarati. And that is exactly what my journey in the field of psychology has taught me about my role. With my practice as a psychotherapist, I aim to become a catalyst in making a meaningful change or even a movement towards betterment, in your journey.

My approach in therapy is based on the belief that as humans, if we get a safe space to look at our emotions and fully experience them in the true sense, we can find answers (or some relief) that we would be looking for. There are a lot of patterns, some helpful and some unhelpful, which we would have learnt and now reproduce consciously or unconsciously in our life. Together, in therapy, we would look at how these patterns might be showing up in your life in the present and aim to reach a space where you choose what to do with these learnt responses in life.

I specialize in the dialogue between Person-centred and Psychodynamic modalities. Simply put, I believe in making sessions a space to accommodate my client’s needs at the centre, instead of them having to fit a pre-decided pace and structure. I see the work as a very relational experience for myself as well as my client, meaning that we will both come into a working relation that will become an important aspect of our lives, and we will both put in the effort to make way for healing in your life.

I am a trauma-informed therapist and I generally work from a long-term and depth-oriented approach, so that people can experience a meaningful change and lasting emotional healing in their lives. I believe in looking at problems from a systemic-lens which is informed by culture, industries, sociology and politics and not just coming from an individual.

I have a double masters in Counselling from India (Xavier's Mumbai) and UK (University of Edinburgh). I am a qualified and recognized counsellor in Scotland (via COSCA) and UK (as an active member of BACP).

I have experience of working with adults going through issues surrounding anxiety, depression, life changes, adjustment issues, relationship issues, bodily difficulties due to stress and many other psychological and emotional issues. I have worked with various age groups across diverse populations in India and UK.

I have been running my private practice in Ahmedabad since about 1.5 years. I work with adults.

Personally, I have experienced being confused and knowing myself better through intentional efforts, and I continue to do the work of knowing my internal world while navigating life. Hence, I understand that seeking therapy might be a big step for you.

You don’t have to navigate it alone, let’s work through it together.

“a person is a fluid process, not a fixed and static entity; a flowing river of change, not a block of solid material; a continually changing constellation of potentialities, not a fixed quantity of traits.”

-Carl R. Rogers, On Becoming A Person
