Hello! I am Samarthya.
Knowing a person via their About Me section is like watching the highlights of their life, like judging a book by its AI-generated cover. So I aim to be honest here so you can develop a shadow, a contour of my image in your mind.
I started studying psychology in Christ University in a triple majors program along with sociology and english which has informed my therapeutic lens. I went on to do a Masters in Clinical Psychology and then teach at Nagpur University. It is very gratifying and humbling to teach. I started teaching offline as an assistant professor in Hislop College. It involved a myriad of duties like invigilation, practical assessments, supervising dissertations and some field projects too. My research work involves the effects and re-enactments of parental dynamics in their children.
I enjoy clinical work alongside writing projects and a little teaching on the side. I have worked with NGOs of specially-abled children guiding them towards skills of hand-looming, typing, singing etc. I have also developed psychometric assessments for design firms, entrance tests for colleges and hiring systems for corporates. Teaching students online to clear psychology entrance exams like CUET-UG/PG, UGC-NET and others has led me to develop modules of education, interview preparation courses, and mentorship programs.
I am getting back to enjoying sports like badminton like a child. I listen to Punjabi music and ghazals, watch a lot of stand-up comedy and love reading and scrolling reels. I enjoy loitering in cafes, walking alone, and travelling with my friends (what a surprise, right?). I am also building mental health systems in India, so if you are a therapist you can reach out to me.
I work as a psychotherapist and an assistant professor. I believe the long term work of therapy is genuine discovery and not solution. I work in-depth with relational concerns using a psychodynamic framework. This space aims to hold you with care, curiosity and authenticity. I am a multidisciplinarian which means I try to locate mental health identities as constructed by forces of history, society, culture, gender, caste, power and other factors at play. The space of therapy is not safe a priori, we will take efforts to co-construct a safe space, which when once made will allow us to traverse the un-safe unknown, the forgotten, which might feel worse sometimes but feeling better and getting better are two different things. Challenging old familiar unhealthy established patterns may not feel comfortable at all, but might help areas of life to bloom.
Mujhe nahi pata aapke liye kya sahi hai aur kya galat, mai yaha aapko sunne ke liye baitha hu, aapke sath dhundne, sochne aur hasne ke liye baitha hu, ye safar aasan nhi hoga par mujhe aasha hai ant mein aapko aapki samsyaaon ka samne karne ki himmat aur iccha milegi. Mere paas aapke liye koi jawab nhi hai (koi jawab hota bhi hai kya?), par ek pura pitara bhar ke sawal mere mann me aate hai.
