"I am much too alone in this world, yet not alone."
— Rainer Maria Rilke
Hi, I am Shiuli. I'm a psychotherapist offering online therapy sessions to adolescents and adults between the ages of 16 and 40. I hold a Master’s in Psychology (Psycho-social Clinical Studies) from Ambedkar University Delhi, with over a year of experience conducting individual therapy sessions under supervision.
My work is informed by psychoanalytical and relational approaches. In practice, this means I tend to work long-term and in-depth, staying responsive to what emerges in our sessions while remaining attentive to the entirety of your inner life. What draws me to this work is my interest in the ways we can know something about ourselves and yet find ourselves living in ways that seem to contradict what we know. For me, therapy is a space where this gap can be lived, explored, and thought about.
A central aspect of the work we do together is creating a space where you can speak as freely as possible, and where your thoughts, feelings and dreams can be met with empathetic listening. I see this kind of listening can allow us to engage with your experiences differently than you have before, and open up possibilities for understanding what may have previously felt difficult to make sense of. Alongside what you are able to speak about, we also make room for and remain attentive to aspects of your experience that are difficult to talk about, that resist articulation, or that remain outside of conscious awareness. Such experiences may make themselves known through recurring patterns, a sense of stuckness, painful relationship dynamics, or other forms of psychic distress. Through the process of speaking and listening and staying with what emerges, we can begin to explore these experiences together. At the core of this process is the therapeutic relationship we build over time. I see this relationship as creating a space where sustained and reflective engagement with difficult experiences.can gradually make way for meaningful change, and for a life with more room in it for work, play, and love.
My Fee:
Indians: Rs.1200/-
Foreign Residents: Rs. 2200/
(I offer sliding scales based on one's capacity to pay. Patients can enquire about reduced fee slots should their circumstance require it. I might be able to offer it depending on availability of such slots.)
I also believe that our inner lives and experience of being in this world is deeply shaped by the cultural and political realities of our time. I try to hold this context alongside the personal nature of your experience, without reducing one to the other.
While much of the pain we carry is deeply personal and unique to each of us, some of the common concerns I work with include: questions of identity and persistent longing to know who you are and where you belong; feelings of shame; intense fear or a sense of dread; numbness in everyday life; difficulty knowing what you are feeling; feeling stuck, or struggling to begin or follow through on things that matter to you; difficulty coping with loss and major life transitions; and the lingering impact of difficult experiences from the past.
Away from work, I find a lot of meaning in writing and reading about the mundane. Once in a while, I take long walks and realise how much I love them, only to not go again for days. I also find myself indulging in people-watching, and I love windy days.
Work Experience:
Currently, I am working independently as a Psychotherapist in Private Practice, under supervision. I am also a consultant psychologist at Creative Care, where I conduct individual therapy sessions with diverse emotional and psychological concerns.
Previously, I trained as a Psychotherapist at Ehsaas,(CPCR) a mental health clinic within Ambedkar University Delhi which aimed at providing short-term psychological support to university students through weekly, one on one individual sessions.
The work was also accompanied by regular group supervision, case presentations, and discussions. Along with this, I also facilitated listening circles. I was also a Psychoanalytic Fellow at The Contemporary Freudian Society, where I participated in ongoing clinical case presentations and theoretical lectures conducted by senior psychoanalysts.
Research Interests:
1.Exploring and understanding experiences of dissociation and derealization through representations of the psyche in gothic literature and cinema.
2.Curious about the relationship between the language we speak and the ways we experience and understand ourselves, including the question of who we become in our mother tongue.
3. Interested in psychoanalytic inquiry into experiences that remain unsymbolised or difficult to articulate, and in the conditions through which such experiences may gradually find representation.
