Welcome to Rainbow Rooted Therapist!

Hello, I am Swati (they/them). I am a Psychotherapist/ Counselling Psychologist.

I grew up in Sonipat, Haryana, and moved to Delhi for college. I did my BA in Psychology (Honors) at the University of Delhi and later pursued my MA in Counselling Psychology from Amity University, Noida. Over the years, psychology has become much more than something I studied. It has given me a space to explore myself, while also helping me be there for people and understand relationships, identities, and the worlds we live in a little better. A lot of how I think about therapy has come from my own journey as a client, from being part of different communities, having difficult conversations, listening to people’s stories, and paying attention to the things that often go unsaid.

My approach to therapy is primarily Humanistic-Existential, and my work is rooted in queer-affirmative, neurodiversity-affirmative, trauma-informed, and intersectional care. I work with people who are exploring their gender, sexuality, identity, relationships, college, family dynamics, or simply trying to understand themselves better. I also work with concerns like self-worth, loneliness, burnout, stress, and life transitions.

I see therapy as a space where I am your co-traveller in the journey, not telling you what you should do with your life, but as someone who can sit with you, listen without judgement, and together make sense of what you are experiencing, at your own pace. We might talk about relationships, coming out, family, self-worth, loneliness, burnout, or the parts of yourself you are still figuring out. Sometimes, we may simply begin with the things that feel hardest to say out loud.

I also believe that we cannot always understand someone’s mental health without understanding their life. Our families, relationships, gender, sexuality, caste, class, money, work, college, communities, politics and the places we grow up in all shape how we see ourselves and what becomes possible for us. I don’t see identity as something that needs to be fixed. I am more interested in understanding what your experiences have been like, including the ways in which the world around you may or may not have made space for you.

And then there’s the part of me that exists outside of being a psychotherapist. I am a non-binary queer individual, and my own experiences of living in a small city have shaped how deeply I value spaces where we don’t have to leave parts of ourselves at the door. I know what it can feel like to wonder where we fit, whether there is a space for us, or whether we will have to explain ourselves before we can simply be understood. This is also why making mental health care more accessible and creating more queer-affirming spaces, particularly beyond big cities, matters to me personally.

There are no expectations to arrive in therapy knowing exactly what you need. You can come with some concern you can name, a feeling you can’t explain, or simply the sense that something doesn’t feel right, and for that support is here :)
